Don’t get rookie player uniforms

As Royals fans, we are excited to see young players in 2021 such as Kyle Isbel, Brady Singer, Kris Bubic, Bobby Witt Jr and others. We all know this is what the Royals future looks like long term. I bet many fans are thinking about getting their favorite player’s jersey. I would recommend you wait at least a year to get certain players jerseys. It seems to me that after a player finishes their first season in the big leagues, they change their jersey number. If you are a big baseball fan, this shouldn’t come as a surprise to you; however, if you are just now following the game, this next section you really need to pay attention to. During spring training, many of the young players are competing for a roster spot in the big leagues. With that being said, teams hand out high jersey numbers to players that are competing for a roster spot or are just getting some playing time against big leaguers to get some experience under their belt. After the spring training games end, you see many of the rookies get sent down to the minor leagues for all or most of the season leaving them off the big league roster. Even if a few of the rookies make the opening day roster I would suggest waiting a season or two to get a young player’s uniform to make sure they don’t change their jersey number after their rookie season because it happens more often than you think. As Royals fans, we will see many rookies make their major league debut this upcoming season, and it will be exciting; but just remember to wait and get their jersey further down the road when their roster spot is secure on the big league roster for the long haul.
