The Royals drafted Bubba Starling out of Gardner Edgerton High School in 2011. Many fans weren’t happy the Royals drafted Starling over Francisco Lindor. But I understand why they would do this. If the Royals passed on Bubba in the draft and Bubba turned out to be a super star, it would scar the Royals organization for many years. Since then Bubba struggled with injuries in the minor leagues. The Royals kept the faith in Starling despite suffering multiple injuries and struggled offensively. Now in 2020 Bubba will have the chance to prove to the Royals and Royals fans that it was worth the wait. Last season Bubba batted .215 with the Royals. He hit 4 home runs and 12 RBI’s. Despite his struggles offensively in 2019 Bubba will be able to have a chance to take an outfielder’s spot with his defensive abilities. Most likely right field if you ask me. With Bubba being 27-years old this is most likely his last opportunity to win a starting role with the Royals. If Bubba doesn’t work out for the Royals as a starter, they could use him as a bench player. Let’s all hope that Bubba has an opportunity to play for the Royals on a daily basis after all he has been through in his baseball career. That’s if the 2020 season can ever start.
