We here at Royals Blue like to tout ourselves as “for fans, by fans”. As opposed to regurgitating the same old information from the same old blowhards you hear everywhere else in the same old media, we like to take to our favorite social media platform to get the opinions and feedback directly from you.
And so we asked …
@RoyalsBlue_com Since his demotion, Mondesi has a .943 OPS, 3 HR, 8 SB in 19 games at AAA. What say you, #Royals fans? When should he get called back up?
Some of our favorite responses …
@291rnr September 1st
@DaphneVelmaPA Now
@MikeGrozier No because he’s still facing AAA pitchers
@Parks67 We’ve known he’s minor league hitter. He’s still not MLB hitter.
@SPMommo Onlyl if Esky is injured; otherwise, next year at earliest.
@MarcRowedder Next year, to take Esky’s spot.
@JLBallinger After Esky is dealt. Not a minute sooner.
@husker_t LATER!!!!
@spence7798 2018
@Big_Red_Truck50 When Escobar is DFA’d once and for all
@mirandamuth78 Next year
@BigLee_31 When he comes back up, he should play shortstop … #Yosted will keep running Esky out there, so …
@85royal After all star break if he’s still rakin.
@Munster_Zer0 Give it another 3-6 weeks
The overwhelming majority of opinions conclude we are not ready to see Mondesi back up with the team for a while.
This fan tends to agree. There is no value in bringing him up here to struggle. Let him destroy AAA pitching for awhile. The (very) young man still has plenty of good MLB days in front of him.
Aside from the one game call up for a double header this past weekend (in which he struck out twice and grounded into a double play in 3 at bats), I would imagine it is at least another couple months before we see him back with the big league club.
We also apparently don’t think much of Esky anymore. This is not terribly surprising given his gentleman’s .438 OPS through 43 games this season.
But hey, at least he’s playing every single game and leading off …
