Royals Bullpen Target: Daniel Hudson

Kansas City’s bullpen was a concern heading into the 2021 season; and as expected, it was. The Royals are looking to be competitive and possibly make the playoffs in 2022. KC has multiple prospects looking to make their major league debut next season, including some relievers on the team. It will be fun to watch their growth, but the organization doesn’t have enough top relievers in the farm, which may lead them to possibly signing a free agent reliever. The reliever market is stacked with many good arms, but the Royals aren’t a team known to hand out big contracts. They will be looking to find a middle of the pack type of reliever. In my opinion, I think the Royals should target Daniel Hudson. Hudson will turn 35 during the offseason, so he definitely won’t be a young arm; however, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a good addition to the bullpen. Hudson has had a good 2021 season with the Padres. Hudson has appeared in 49 games for the Friars. In 49 games, he has posted a 3.09 ERA. He has pitched 46.2 innings with 68 strikeouts. I believe the Royals could sign Hudson to a one-year deal worth $6 or $7 million dollars. Only time will tell if the Royals target Hudson during the offseason. However, if the Royals don’t target Hudson, do expect them to bring in a veteran bullpen arm.
