The Royals are looking to be sellers at the trade deadline. The Royals have struggled mightily this season even though they have been able to put multiple wins together; but, it’s a little too late to compete for a postseason push. The Royals have multiple players that will be on the trade block. Kansas City’s top trade candidates are Whit Merrifield, Michael A Taylor, Jorge Soler, and Danny Duffy. Let’s look at the under the radar trade candidates for the Royals.
1. Jarrod Dyson Dyson was selected in the 50th round of the 2006 MLB draft. Since then, he’s made it a long way from the minors to a regular big leaguer (doesn’t play everyday). Dyson isn’t a great hitter which obviously hurts his trade value; however, with his speed and his postseason experience, that will definitely increase his trade value. The Royals have traded Dyson already once in his Royals’ career back in 2017 for pitcher Nathan Karns. I believe that trade worked out for both sides. Now at the age of 36, Dyson could be on the move again. The Royals would most likely receive very little in return for Dyson, but with Kansas City continuing to rebuild, they could get a prospect or two from a team that is looking to add a speedy outfielder for a potential postseason run.
2. Ryan McBroom
The Royals are stacked with first baseman in the organization with Carlos Santana, Ryan O’Hearn, and Nick Pratto. The Royals acquired McBroom from the Yankees in 2019 for cash considerations. McBroom would be a great bench piece for a contender that is looking to add a player that could pinch hit in the late innings of a game. Unfortunately for the Royals, McBroom won’t bring any well known prospects back to Kansas City; but, the Royals could possibly add a speedy player to the organization like a Billy Burns type of player for a future postseason run in Kansas City.
3. Wade Davis
While Davis definitely isn’t the pitcher he once was, he still could help a team in the postseason with his playoff experience. The Royals would likely receive cash in return for Davis, but this move would allow the Royals to promote a young pitcher from the minors.
