On January 14, Corey Kluber held a workout session for teams. The Royals were one of the teams in attendance. During Kluber’s workout session, pitchers Anthony Swarzak and Steve Cishek also attended. The Royals are still looking to add pitching this offseason, and I think Cishek could fill a bullpen role for them. The 34-year old pitched for the White Sox in 2020. During his time with Chicago, he struggled. In 2020, he posted a 5.40 ERA in 22 games. Although he struggled in 2020, I believe he would make a good addition to a pretty youthful Royals bullpen. The Royals were also one of the teams to watch Anthony Swarzak pitch. The right hander signed a one-year deal with Chicago on January 14, 2020. His stay with the White Sox was a short one struggling with a 5.40 ERA. The White Sox released him on September 28. With his struggles in 2020, many of you are probably scratching your head why the Royals would be interested in him. If you have been following the Royals, you know they like signing bounce back candidates like Homer Bailey and Matt Harvey. I believe he could provide some veterans presence in a young Royals bullpen. With Swarzak’s struggles in 2020, I think the Royals could land him on a minor league deal and use him in the closer’s role during the season. With the Royals looking to compete in 2021, I believe we could see the Royals bring in many other pitchers to compete for the closer’s role in spring training.
