Despite his struggles last season, the Royals might move Glenn Sparkman back into the starting rotation. Yes, I realize Sparkman looked like a mess yesterday against the Astros but remember it’s spring training. And yes, I know his stats from 2019. If you don’t, here they are. Sparky appeared in 31 games for the Royals and went 4–11. He started 23 of those 31 games. His ERA wasn’t pretty either. He posted a 6.02 ERA. I also realize Kansas City has many options for their starting rotation. If I were the Royals manager, I would put Ian Kennedy back in the rotation; but I’m not the manager, so I doubt Kennedy will be back in the starting rotation anytime soon. I would like to mention that Sparkman isn’t even my second option for the rotation. Jesse Hahn would be my second option behind Kennedy. Sparkman would be my third option. What about Jorge Lopez you might ask? Well to sum that up quickly, the Royals have moved him to a permanent bullpen role. They have yet to do that with Sparkman. Sparkman has also shown he can eat up innings. The Royals could also put Brady Singer in the starting rotation, but I don’t want them to rush his development. Regardless of what happens, I am glad that Royals baseball is back after a very long offseason.
